We here in ski-land are gearing up for what is sure to be a memorable spring break season, as many schools are beginning to get "out" for the much anticipated week-long respite from books and test scores. It makes for a wonderful mix of Winter revelers ... families with elementary aged children up to college aged folk, many of which may be stretching their solo traveling wings for the first time.
The lifts may be packed (no two people to a six-chair next week!), but all come with a sense of escape and excitement that we've enjoyed one of the best Winters we've seen in a while, with runs and runs of powder to show for it.
In the middle of what is a large part of the country's spring break week, sits Saint Patrick's Day! I, for one, am looking forward to the excuse to carbo-load like I'm prepping for the Ironman ... homemade Irish soda bread and a colcannon island floating in the middle of a butter lagoon ... washed down by any one of a variety of delicious St. Pat's American Style frosty beverages, all of which will more than supply my Recommended Dietary Allowance of Green No. 7. Here in Summit County, we boast a handful of Irish pub-esque establishments one can go to get their shamrock on, all within a Leprechaun's throw of the major ski areas. While they, too, usually prove to be packed to the windows with rosy cheeked O'merrymakers ... the Rockies aren't a bad place to find your pint and corned beef on a powdery Winter's night.
Wishing you a wee bit o' luck from these blustery peaks ...
